Member Information and Biographies | 10th Anniversary Celebration Mark
Wingertsahn In 1992, being inspired by the area’s rich pottery heritage, Mark decided to focus his creativity exclusively on pottery making. Transforming his vision into a work of art was challenging as a novice. With no formal training in ceramics, a little help from friends and lots of determination, Mark created his first piece. With time and skill progression, he found himself drawn to the whimsical and is now best known for his hand-built birdhouses. The houses are functional being made to withstand the elements if hung out-of-doors. But often, the unique houses end up indoors, placed on the mantle or in a special nook. Mark’s wheel-thrown pottery (pots) and other unique sculptural pieces are also very poplar. In fact, his functional pottery has become a significant part of his total portfolio. Birdhouse collectors, pottery and Folk Art collectors, as well as those who have a passion for nature and the environment, are drawn to his work.
Having worked with all ages, Mark thoroughly enjoys sharing his talents. His Whimsical, Hand-Built Clay Birdhouses class taught at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown , North Carolina is always great fun! He holds workshops for home-schoolers, churches, specialty shops and galleries, and other venues upon request. Mark’s
work has been exhibited in galleries
